As a new mom, I am learning, failing, and growing constantly. No one can quite prepare you for what it is like with a new baby, no matter how much googling and researching you do. Being a mom is the hardest thing I have ever done, but also one of the most rewarding things I have ever been a part of. Right when you think you’ve got your baby figured out, they change the next week (am I right mamas??)!
I thought it would be helpful to put together a list of the baby products that I have found to work the best, have become essential to us, or just things we love and Andie loves! Obviously, these are all my personal opinion, and may not work the same for every baby, but that is the beauty of motherhood…we are all different and have different babies!
These are not necessarily in any particular order…but here we go!
#1 Halo Sleep Sack
I had heard so may great thing about the Halo Sleep Swaddles, so I was excited to try this out when we brought Andie home. I know some babies don’t like to be swaddled, but Andie loved it from night one, so we were very fortunate! What I love about the Halo is how you can swaddle their arms in or out. When Andie started to get a little bigger and was moving around more, we began to swaddle her arms out…and just recently she has been moving so much, we have had to find another option…and that brings me to #2…
#2 Merlin Magic Sleep Suit
Ok, this might be one of the funniest things I have ever seen, but this thing really does work! Since Andie has been rolling to her side pretty often, and is getting CLOSE to rolling over, I wanted to put her in something at night to keep her a little more still until she was really rolling over and was strong enough to turn herself back over if she did roll over in the middle of the night…this girl is a mover so I know it won’t be long before I will be taking her out of this thing!
#3 Long Sleeved Onesies
When babies are little, they basically live in onesies (unless you are my child and your mother gets giddy in the mornings when she has to go somewhere because she gets to pick out your outfit for the day). Long sleeved onesies are great for just hanging out at the house, but you can also throw on some leggings with them if it’s a little chilly outside (I sound like I am writing about my favorite fashion staples for myself…maybe that will be a future post…Fashion Friday for Andie?).
#4 Baby Swing
My husband is REALLY good at researching (I am the worst), and he did a lot of research on swings before Andie arrived. We found this one on Amazon and what we LOVE about it is that is moves more like a glider that you would have in your nursery, hence the the name “Gliding Swing”. Andie LOVES her swing, and almost always gives me a good 2-3 hour nap each morning in it…I am slowly transitioning her to napping in her crib more often, but why mess up a good thing just yet?
#5 Hatch Sound Machine
Ok, I can’t take the credit for finding this gem…I stalked my sister’s registry and she had this sound machine on there…we totally copied them and ordered it, and LOVE it. It has quite a variety of different sound options, color options, and can be controlled by an app on your phone (technology these days). It acts as a nightlight as well, and the brightness can be controlled from your phone too.
#6 Medela Sanitizing Bags
As a new mom, I am always looking for ways to make my life easier (because I am already constantly running around looking like a chicken with their head cut off). Right after Andie was born, we had to introduce bottles a little earlier than we were planning to (because let’s be honest…nothing really goes like you “planned” for it to when you found out you were having a baby…). We learned very early that you have to sanitize bottles after each use, and I quickly began looking for the most efficient and quickest way to do so. We found these Medela sanitizing bags at Target, and have been using them ever since! Each bag can be used 20 times before you have to throw it out, and with 5 in a box for about $5, you aren’t breaking the bank! All you have to do is fill them with the correct amount of water and put them in the microwave for 90 seconds and you are good to go!
#7 Play Mat
My sister and I both received this play mat from our sweet friends at a baby shower, and I cannot tell you how much use we have gotten out of it! Andie will lay on this thing for hours and just talk to herself and mess with her toys…I know before long I will be chasing her around this house, so I am soaking up all the time I can sitting next to her while she plays on her mat.
#8 Aveeno Baby Products
I was just going to talk about the Aveeno baby eczema line, but I have been super impressed with the entire line of Aveeno baby products. Baby skin is so sensitive that is important to have a good product that takes care of it. Like most babies do, every now and then Andie will get some red bumps or spots on her face or chest…I put the night balm on her before she goes to bed, and it’s pretty much gone when she wakes up in the morning. Even if she doesn’t have any sort of rash or spots, I still put the cream on her chest in the mornings and use their baby lotion on her legs and arms! We use the bath wash as well…we are big fans of this stuff if you can’t already tell!
#9 Aldi Diapers
Ok, so we received a truck load of diapers from our showers (mostly Pampers), so I haven’t had to really buy diapers just yet. I did, however, need to buy another pack of newborn sized diapers because she was in them for a little longer than we thought. We are avid Aldi shoppers, so I did some research on their Little Journey’s line, because why not give it a shot when you can get a pack of 50 diapers for $4.29…that’s right…$4.29!! I figured if we hated them, we were out less than $5…I can give up a Starbucks coffee for that (ehh…debatable, but I took the risk anyways). Well good news, they are great!! Don’t get me wrong, I love my Pampers and have no complaints against them, but for that price I can’t NOT buy them! They even have the little line down the front to let you know if the diaper is wet…big fan of that thing. These are worth a shot, even if you hate them…you are probably a better person than me and are willing to give up a coffee if they fail…
#10 Sleepers with Zippers
Baby pajamas are probably one of my favorite things. And honestly, you really cannot have too many of them since they are constantly covered in spit up, or poop…or both. But one thing I have learned is how much better pajamas with zippers are versus ones with snaps. I have experienced this now more than ever, but when you are trying to wrangle a 3 month old who constantly moves and talks to herself, zipping up the pajamas are way easier than having to sit there and snap 102 buttons…and I can only imagine this is going to get harder and harder.
#11 Gadikat Diaper Backpack
Ok I know I said 10 items, but this one is too good not to share. My Gadikat Diaper Backpack is a dream come true. Not only is it super stylish (which was very important to me), it’s extremely functional, and not SUPER girly (which was very important to my husband…who assumed he would be carrying it occasionally…good assumption, babe). There are so many different pockets for storage, and a spot on the side to keep bottles cooler. And that fact that it is a backpack makes my life way easier. Do yourself a favor and get one of these!
And that’s it! I probably have 100 more things I could write about, but I’ll save those for later posts!
I’ll leave you with this…Andie in her Merlin Magic Sleep Suit…and I am definitely that mom who was laughing so hard that I made Jordan come look at her so he could share in the humiliation. When she is older and about to go on her first date, we will whip this picture out…:-)
Until next time!
